Leadership success tip... Be a bit outrageous!

and be a leader, you have to be different. Otherwise, you're
boring (perhaps the SECOND biggest marketing sin -- after
being unethical).

I don't mean being a nut. Instead, I'm referring to doing
"out of the box" things that get attention and benefit
your customers.

There are at least nine ways to be outrageous -- all of
which can be extremely profitable.
Nine great ways to be outrageous:
- Make an outrageous offer.
- Create an outrageous headline.
- Make an outrageous claim.
- Create an outrageous invitation.
- Offer an outrageously personalized premium.
- Make an outrageous comparison.
- Offer outrageous customer service.

I love to look for ways to be outrageous -- especially to

Customers Buy More Than Your Products

Recently a supplier that I have used for a long time was
bought out by another company.  Even though the new
organization provides the same service at the same price,
I'm disappointed.  I'll miss the friendly help the original
owner provided.

Come to think of it, his personality and assistance was the
main reason I was his customer.  When I talked to several
friends who also use the service, they said the same things.

This brings up a great point.  Customers buy for a lot of
reasons and most of them have nothing to do with the
quality or price of your product or service.

Customers buy:
* Your personality
* Your service
* The way your store or website looks
* Your philosophy about life, business, or politics
* The way your store smells
* Your efficiency
* Your reputation among people they know
* Your location or memorable web address

I have found that our customers tend to purchase more
as they get to know us. That's one of the reasons I have
decided to invest in an online conference room. I'm still
working out the kinks and learning how to use it.

When I get just a little bit more comfortable with how it works
and get some presentations I'll post an open invitation for you

    I had an amazing evening!  Another Shaklee Sales leader, Carolyn Comfort, and I are "teaming-up" to do joint meetings to build our Shaklee Organizations.  Tonight was a skin care meeting held at her house with her prospects.  I met these same 2 gals early in December when I did a group Opportunity Presentation for Carolyn.
 
    We did a nice, quick skin care event.  Through the evening these gals didn't indicate that they were interested in anything other than being members.  In fact, one gal talked a lot about opening up a small Coffee/Internet Bar as a new business and was all excited about being self-employed! 
 
    At the end of the participation Carolyn announces...right in front of these gals... "I want to tell them about the $100,000 incentive!"  I said, "That's a great idea...go ahead!"  I thought, what could it hurt...

    That led to a small explanation of the $100,000 for developing a Master.  Then I related about the web broadcasting and training!  I told them the story of Kathi Mensky and her investment and development of her internet training for Excel...the bankruptcy of Excel...her search for a new leader...how she learned about redirected spending and Shaklee-i-zeeing her home...after 2 months having 822 members into her group and doing 80,000 PV for December! 

I said, granted...Mensky had the people...but these people are just like you and me and to have them come from another company's culture to a Shaklee culture and get the concept is commendable!  They focused on 100 PV !  Gary, these ladies were WOWED!!! 

    It was 8:45 and I invited them to come and just look at what the web broadcast looked like.  To my amazement, they followed me and stuck around!  TheGlobalSuccessTeam.com was having problems with their system...no sound.  So we popped into yours!  It was 9:15 and we came at the right moment...the money!  They were so impressed!  I could see the "barrier" just melt away!  What ever had been holding them back before just disappeared! 

The one gal who was so excited about opening a business did a 180 and said, I think I should do this!  This would be a lot less of a headache!  And the other lady, who was dithering about to do or not to do membership, decides to sponsor and bought the complete skin care plus vitamins!  $166.00 in PV!!!  We did it right at the computer, right then and there!
   
This is the way to do it!  The way of the future!
  
  A very key thing to do is to get a few people around a computer at their house or my house to walk them through to get to the broadcast!  As they asked questions I was answering them while we watched!

Great Web Training Example...

This morning, I called Sarah and asked her to check out the conference room!  I told her that I wanted "fresh-eyes" to give me feed back on this new technology. 
She agreed to check it out...but was frank that she was just not cut out to be a Shaklee person and hoped I wasn't disappointed.  I told her that I understood that...and we had a little conversation. 

It was good!  I commiserated with her saying things like, "When I was your age, I would not be able to either...There comes a level of life-experience that only comes with age..."  

It was a great chat...and she agreed to check it out, so I sent her your instructions.  She got into the room in the afternoon and we both were in there together.  Then I had her go with me to GlobalSuccessTeam.com and checked out the pre-recorded presentation and everything else.  She was impressed with all of it.

She beat me into the room tonight!  She was really impressed!  She taught me about the "Private user chat"!  That's cool!  I'll have to show you that if you don't know about it. 

You click onto a name of a person in the list. 
That highlights their name
Then click onto "User" up in the tool box area. 
The drop down talks about "Private chat". 
Click on that and a small text-box window pops up on top of the slides. 
It allows you to carry on a private chat without anyone else seeing it and you can still see the slides!!! 

She was totally in awe of this technology, and the presentation.  She really perked up when you were showing people and telling stories of their income.  She parted saying that we will talk more about this tomorrow!  Wow!

At the Masters meeting in Pleasanton last week, Roger Barnett introduced this incredible incentive.  


Here’s how it works:


Any Shaklee distributor at any rank who sponsors someone who becomes a Master Coordinator in the next 12 months will get a check for $100,000 cash and the person they sponsor will also get a check for $100 cash! The first people to do this will each get $200,000 cash!


In addition to $200,000 cash they will each also get to spend a weekend with Roger and Sloan at his personal residence! (NYC, West Palm?)


There are not limits to the number of people who can qualify for this spectacular incentive.  There are no limits to how many Masters you can find and get paid this incentive on!


Rules for this program are forthcoming but so far, the only rule I know of is that the sponsor can be a member now but must be a Director to get the CASH!


The point is…


You don’t have to be a Master— just find one!


Can this really be done?


Absolutely it can be done.  In fact, it has been done 3 times in Shaklee’s history.  The first couple to do it was Bob & Betty Hughes from Marietta, Georgia. When they did it, to be Master you had to have 15 first levels @ 3000 PV.  Now you only need 6 first generation Directors @2000 PV each.  Of course, you also need to have a total of 100,000 BGV in your pay line but a group in momentum can do that easily.


The barrier has already been broken.  We know it can be done.  There is no doubt in my mind that more than one person will do this and get the cash. 


Why Not You?


You can do this—here’s how:


Decide that you will make it happen!


Put the blinders on.  Remove as much interference in your life as you possibly can. Limit TV and e-mail etc.  Understand this will take a massive effort for the first 6 months — but this is major money!


Understand what it can mean for your future to have $100,000 + in one lump sum and a first level Master Coordinator as we move into the future!  (See Value of a Master below)


Get out your chicken list.  Make a list of everyone you know who has the talent and skill to make this happen.  Have no fear!  Use this incredible opportunity to start over—make a new list—make it big!


Have a conversation with your family around your goals.  If you do this business in a big way you’re going to be busy.  Your family needs to know what your goals are and why it’s going to be worth the effort. You can do this business part time, full time or BIG TIME!  They each require a different level of commitment and action.  To do it BIG TIME you must make a big commitment!


Commit to work with only those who are totally committed.


You don’t have time to drag people across the finish line.  How can you know for sure if they are committed? Answer these three simple questions for everyone you are working with …


1. Are they coachable & committed?


2. Do they respond? (Are they doing all the things they are taught to do … are they actively following the process?


3. Are they getting results?


It’s important to understand that some people are coachable and committed and they really want to make it happen but they just don’t have the right stuff—even with your help.  No matter how much you want it for them — you have to work with the one (s) who can get it done!


Get a commitment for help from your upline (s) or a Shaklee friend who has credibility to work with you and your new Superstar!


Get 3/way calling and make using it second nature.  This is one of the most powerful tools in our industry.


Get help from the EXPERT


If you are new in the business, you can use 3/way calling to leverage the talented people in your upline. You let them be the EXPERT while you listen and learn.


Get a quality telephone. The telephone is an extremely important business-building tool and you’ll be on the phone a lot — so this is not the place to cut corners. Like nutritional supplements, all telephones are not the same. Get a telephone that sounds great.


While you’re at it, get a quality headset. Headsets free you up to make notes. (Easy on your neck) With your great new phone and your super-duper headset you can just strap yourself into the cockpit — get out your list of names and your activity tracker — smile and dial! 


While we’re on the subject of phones…make sure your phone has quality speakerphone capabilities… I can’t imagine why you would ever want to hold a meeting without testimonials and success stories—a good speakerphone is one great way to do it!


Have a Process


Are you always crystal clear on Next Steps?


Understand the difference between Presentation and the Mechanics of the plan.   Presentation is about the “Big Picture”.  Mechanics are about how it all works (the numbers).  Mechanics should rarely be given during an initial presentation.


Make a list of all conference calls that are happening in the field and plug in your new builders to the appropriate calls.  Keep the list organized on your desktop!


Get focused. Get organized. 


Throw out all the junk in our office.  Eliminate every possible distraction.  Start with a clean slate…it’s good for your head!


Get permission from your new builders to call them every day for 30 days!  Most of these calls will be short but it’s critical to stay on top of things.  Never assume things are moving in the right direction.  You need to know and as the leader, you have the right to know!


You need more than one committed builder.  Stuff happens.  People change their minds.  Don’t be shocked or disappointed if someone fails to follow through on his or her commitment, be prepared — have some backup builders!


Get the Fast-Start program and know it cold!  Keep it simple.  Save the mechanics of the plan for training. Duplicating with Fast Start Programs is the KEY to generating big volume.  Your new people will ask you how you got started.  You want to be able to tell them you got started with the Fast Start Program.    This is simple duplication at work!


Choose the tools you want to use to build your business.  Video’s, DVD’s, tapes, conference calls, pre-recorded calls, internet presentations, your personal web sites, etc.  Get organized with a specific plan around which tools you want to use.


Keep your belief level high. 


This is critical.  There will be disappointments along the way.  Listen to calls.  Watch Roger’s video.  Talk to other positive leaders.  Protect your attitude — avoid those who are negative about anything! Negativity zaps energy and belief!  Belief is the single most critical factor in your success!  Do you believe that?


Make a serious 180-day commitment starting right now.  Put the blinders on.  Don’t look to the right or to the left.  Decide that you are going to give this everything you’ve got for the next 18 months.  


Resist the urge to focus on results too early in the game.   Steven Covey says… “Don’t keep pulling up the flowers to see how the roots are coming.”   Stay totally focused on the PROCESS.  Keep doing the key steps over and over.  To use a basketball analogy, just keep firing the ball at the basket, sooner or later, they all start going in!   In this business, if we keep telling the story over and over, sooner or later we WILL find the key people we’re looking for.


Work harder than you’ve ever worked for the next 180 days and when you come up for air on day 181, you’ll be amazed at what you have accomplish.


Self-educate.  Don’t depend on someone to teach you everything or do it for you.  Learn as much as you can as fast as you can.


Develop your personal story and learn to tell it well.  Your personal story is made up of: How you see this opportunity, why it’s attractive to you — your true feelings about the potential of the business.


This is a story-telling business.  The better you understand and internalize the Shaklee story, the more effectively you will be able to tell it!


Put together a talking points page with all of the key points of this opportunity and then, memorize it! The best recruiters work from a talking points page. Imagine for a moment that you have been chosen to star in a Broadway play--- would you memorize the script?


Committing the most compelling points about the business and the product to memory is one of the great keys to our business--- and one all winners do. Remember. success in our business is all about how often and how well you tell the story!


Now if you think memorizing a few key points is too difficult, Jerry Lucas who played basketball for the New York Knicks memorized the NYC phone book. If he can do that, surely you can memorize a few key points about this opportunity!


The Value of a First Level Master


Fortunately we have 4 first-level Masters — Gary & Faye Burke, Rocky & Mollie Pratt, Ross & Mary Margaret Earley and Adrian & Lou Anne Opitz. Last year, we earned an average of over $200,000 in overrides from each of them.


Would it be worth the effort to find and build a Master?


One first level Master means you are more financially secure for the rest of your life!  There is no better Social Security program in the world than owning a business that throws off residual income month after month and year after year.

Plan to become a Master Coordinator
1.  Become a Senior Coordinator yourself
     Create a 5,000PV base, customers/members/reps
2.  Find 2 other people to do the same thing
     You will be a Senior Coordinator
 
Now Find 6 other people to become Senior Coordinators and you will be a MASTER COORDINATOR
 
Sounds Simple, of course, we know it is not easy, but at least this gives people a plan that they understand and can follow.  It can be done.

4.  The first sponsor/new Master team in the field to do this will receive a double bonus in the amount of $200,000 each.

Is Your Business Making This Marketing Communications Mistake?

It's true, we were all taught in school to express ourselves differently on paper, than the way we speak. To follow rules of grammar, and inject an artificial air of formality.


 Forgetting about this training is the best thing you can possibly do. Unless you're selling to the academic community. And forgetting it, may not be as easy as you think.


Are you communicating with your customers in PLAIN TALK.


Do you write like you're speaking to a friend across the table?


Maybe even use a little slang, now & then?


Or do you worry about your high school English teacher committing suicide, if she ever stumbled across your stuff?


If so, do yourself a favor. Get over it.


Marketing Communications should never be about trying to impress. Prospects should never have to think about what you're trying to say.


So keep your sentences short.


Don't use big words.


Keep plenty of free space around your copy, so it looks easy.


The mind can only really think of one thing at a time. If you want your prospect to concentrate on something, make sure your points don't require more than a split second to understand. 


Look at the below example, taken from an ad for a special day care course for kids. It's put on by a government agency that promotes apple agriculture in their region.


The point of the text is this. "Pay us money to look after your kids because we'll teach them something, instead of just baby-sitting them".


Read the example, and then the revision in plain talk.


EXAMPLE


This program encourages students to conduct simple investigations of apples. Students experiment, observe, and keep records as they become 'immersed" in a multi-sensory study of apples. Students will make notes in learning logs as they investigate and discuss the activities. In the learning logs the students simply record what happened during the activities and their reactions to what happened.


Students may later use their notes as the basis for language arts activities, such as writing poems. Writing first serves as a tool for learning and later becomes one of the possible end-products of the lessons.

Hey Mom, kids love to learn about apples. They're naturally curious, and learn best by tasting, smelling, squeezing, rolling, & tossing.

They love sharing the experience with their classmates, and can't wait to write home about what happened. And let me tell you, the feelings they express in the special diaries we give them are priceless.


You'll be giving your kids a head start at putting their thoughts down on paper. One of life's most important skills.

Almost every product or service imaginable has a technical side, and you can never over educate.  But it shouldn't feel like school.


Maybe you think you're selling a commodity, and there's not much to the customer's decision, but price. Think again.


One of the greatest skills you can acquire is to be able to boil the froth off complex concepts, so that they become easy to understand.


Customers crave facts, and proof, in order to feel comfortable with their decisions, once you've stirred up their emotional desire.


Being able to inject them painlessly works so much better!
