How I got into my DREAM Career
11.24.04 (1:02 pm)   [edit]

First let me introduce myself...my name is Cindy McAsey.

I have been living my dream of owning and running my own home based business for 8 years now. It had always been my Plan B that took a back seat to life in the fast lane with my career in the non-profit corporate world.  After being downsized in the corporate world for the second time in 10 years, I decided to make it my full time business
1 1/2 years ago.

I
love what I do, the people I meet, the flexibility, and only traveling when I want to not when I'm told to.

I am a licensed Cosmetologist and practiced in a full service a salon for several years (before the Corporate World). As time went on my allergic reactions to the chemicals I was around daily got the best of me. I would get sinus attacks and big headaches when I would get around strong perfumes and cleaners. It got so bad I was going to the Dr. office every 6 weeks for antibotics, he told me I needed to change my career. I left salon, as a last resort.

Then, I tried this new product and after 2 months I didn't have the sinus attacks and headaches like I used to. Perfumes and cleaners don't bother me like they used to anymore either. Do you know anyone who would like to know about a product like that?

In fact I liked the products so much I decided to market them. I have built a customer base that buys consumable Shaklee products and Shaklee pays me a bonus check that comes every month.

Now what about you...do you dream of owning your own business and making a decent living at the same time. If so... it might be worth your time to check out the posibilities at http://income.mcaseyenterprises.com" title="http://income.mcaseyenterprises.com" target="_blank"http://income.mcaseyenterpris...

Have you set up your PWS yet?
11.19.04 (9:31 am)   [edit]

If you haven't your're missing out... Shaklee has started a new ezine just for Personal Website Site (PWS) owners. If you plan on growing your business this is a must have...

I'm posting the first issue here so you can see some of the tips you will be missing out on if you don't have a PWS
Your redesigned PWS Home Page

As the leading Health and Wellness Company, we want everyone who comes into Shaklee to know about and use our Essential Foundation package of Shaklee® Basics and Energizing Soy Protein for better health.

So we've redesigned the home page and created a brand new Essential Foundation page that highlights the importance Essential Foundation serves as a nutritional cornerstone. New visitors coming to your PWS home page will see Essential Foundation packaging displayed prominently, with a link that reads "Great Health Starts Here," which takes them directly to the new Essential Foundation page.

You'll also notice that our antioxidant package of CarotoMax® and FlavoMax is featured next to Essential Foundation on the home page. It's the perfect complement to Essential Foundation for those who want a premium nutritional program. In the future, you'll see the center squares on the PWS home page change as new products come on the scene, or as different seasons bring new product tie-in opportunities.

Finally, we've added navigation on the left side of the PWS home page to take visitors to each of the main product categories on your PWS. This way, a visitor can easily get to every main product section with your PWS.

New Essential Foundation Web Page

The new Essential Foundation web page is content-rich and graphically pleasing. Visitors to the page can view a four-minute video about the Essential Foundation story, and we've created links to separate product pages that give more in-depth product information about Shaklee Basics® and Energizing Soy Protein. We've also linked up a list of other nutritional packages that they can add to their Essential Foundation for a more complete, personalized nutritional program. You'll be seeing more content-rich web pages like this to enhance your PWS.

We encourage you to direct new prospects to the Essential Foundation page to get started. Put a link to this page in the signature file of your email with a message "Great Health Starts Here!" Using a projector connected to your laptop computer, show the web page and the four-minute video on Essential Foundation at your next home meeting. (See the In Your Corner section below for more information).

Use this web page to show new business prospects how they can build their business by recommending the Essential Foundation package to their contacts and then building upon that package with one of our additional nutritional product packages. Let them know that with 20 people ordering Essential Foundation and one other nutrition pack on AutoShip they advance to Director. Or they can become a Director with just 40 people in their personal group ordering Essential Foundation on AutoShip.

With the new Essential Foundation web page, getting people signed up is easier than ever before, especially if you have two or three business builders working under you, sharing the Essential Foundation page on their Shaklee PWS tool.

 Tricks of the Trade

Making the Most of Your What's New Page

The What's New page on your PWS is a versatile page you can use in different ways to promote different aspects of your Shaklee business.

For starters, it's a great page for you to showcase new products that Shaklee launches. Give the new product a personal touch by sharing your personal experience with the product, highlighting what you most like about it. You can also add testimonials from others in your group. Whenever highlighting a new product on this page, make sure to add a link directly to the product detail page so visitors can easily click on it to get more information or to buy the product.

A second way you can use the What's New page is to highlight upcoming meetings or events in your home or in your area. Advertise your upcoming meeting including the directions, time and date, and speaker information. Use e-mail or the phone to direct prospects to go to your What's New Page and learn about your meeting. Encourage the PWS visitor to attend and bring a friend. Even better, they can invite their friends to your meeting using the E-mail This Page link located on the top right hand corner of your What's New web page! Afterwards, use the page to recap the meeting for those who missed it, and let them know about the next one!

A third way you can use your What's New page is for recognition. Putting someone's name online and highlighting their achievement is a wonderful way to recognize them. You can also encourage growth in your group by making recognition on your What's New page a fun competition. Announce to your group that the highest achiever that month gets recognized on your PWS along with a gift certificate. Be creative and be personal in your rewards and recognition (remember, the more high tech, the more need there is for you to offer the personal high touch).

Finally, your What's New page can be an excellent place to put up your monthly e-mail newsletter, if you are using one. In fact you could highlight new products, recognize high achievers, and talk about your next meeting--all in one e-mail newsletter! Post your newsletter on your What's New page and send an email to your group announcing your newsletter with a link to the page.

As you can see, the What's New page on your Shaklee PWS is a blank canvas filled with possibilities to help you grow your Shaklee business! Be creative and proactive with it. Change the content regularly. Advertise it. Give it some personality and watch it go to work for you.

 In Your Corner

Q: How do I create a link?

A: Creating a link is easy. You start by going to the web page you want to link to. In the narrow address box along the top of the web page is the web address of that page. Highlight the complete web address (including the http: part), then go up to EDIT in your Menu Bar and choose COPY. Next, go to the document you wanted to add the link to; it could be an e-mail message, a signature file, or one of the pages of your PWS. Then put your cursor where you want to insert the link, go back up to EDIT in your Menu Bar, and choose PASTE. If everything was done correctly the link should appear. People clicking on the link will then automatically be sent to the web page that you've linked.

Consider adding links to other specific pages within your PWS when appropriate. For instance, if you are talking about a Shaklee product on the What's New page, add a link to the specific product page. Links on your PWS make it easy for site visitors to quickly get to other web pages. The less clicks they need to navigate, the more likely you are to make a sale, sign up a new member, or get contact information from a prospective new business builder.

Q: I'd like to show my PWS to a group of people during one of my home meetings. How can I easily do that?

A: Ideally, you need three things to bring your Shaklee PWS or any website to life at a meeting--a laptop computer, a projector and a Wi-Fi or Internet connection. A laptop computer gives you the ease of portability, allowing you to set up your presentation in your living room. Projectors have come down drastically in price and today you can get a good one for under $1000 (see link below) that will easily plug into your computer and show your computer screen brilliantly on a wall or a screen.

That leaves the need for an Internet connection. The best route is to have a Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi, or Wireless Fidelity, allows you to connect to the Internet from anywhere in your home without wires. How? Wi-Fi is a wireless technology like a cell phone. Wi-Fi enabled computers send and receive data indoors and out anywhere within the range of a base station. To get Wi-Fi in your home you need to buy a router or base station that plugs into your DSL or cable modem. And you need a Wi-Fi card in your computer so it can connect to your base station. Learn more about Wi-Fi and companies that offer Wi-Fi products at: http://www.wi-fi.org/" title="http://www.wi-fi.org/" target="_blank"http://www.wi-fi.org/

For a list of online projectors under $1000 check out: http://www.projectorpeople.com/projectors/under1000.asp" title="http://www.projectorpeople.com/projectors/under1000.asp" target="_blank"http://www.projectorpeople.co...

Now, you know what you need to bring the exciting and dynamic aspect of the Internet and your Shaklee PWS to your next home meeting! Once online, you can spice up your meetings by creating a tour of your Shaklee PWS and highlighting certain product pages, playing video from the Opportunity section or even featuring member-only offerings at MyShaklee.com.

Pumpkin In A Jug
11.16.04 (6:21 am)   [edit]

From the desk of Earl Nightingale
In the fall when the leaves are turning, a chill is in the air and roadside
merchants offer fall apples, squash and pumpkins, I am reminded of the
farmer who was walking through his pumpkin patch early in the growing
season, and while walking near the road that ran by his farm, he found a
one-gallon glass jug that some motorist had tossed into his field.

He stood looking at the jug for a few moments, and then for no particularly good reason, he poked a small pumpkin into the jug without damaging the vine.

Later when the pumpkins were full grown and were being picked and stacked, he came across the jug again, this time completely filled with the pumpkin he'd poked inside.  The pumpkin had filled the jug completely, and had stopped growing; it was the size and shape of the jug. The farmer took that pumpkin in the jug home and put it on his front porch as a curiosity.

A few days later their son and his wife came to the farm for dinner.  They
examined the pumpkin in the jug, and after looking at it in silence for a
while; the son asked if he could take it to the local college where he
taught psychology.  "Sure, take it," his father said.  "But what are you
going to do with it?"

"I'm going to show it to my class and remind them that that's what happens to things that get poked into pre-determined spaces. That pumpkin, never got the chance to reach its full growth, whatever that might have been, because it had been poked into pre-determined limit.

Someone had decided what the shape and size of that pumpkin was going to be, and it didn't have any choice in the matter.  I want my students to learn a lesson from that pumpkin in a jug.

We cannot outgrow the limitations we place on ourselves, or the limits determined by others - if we go along with them - so I want them to understand that if they find themselves, as adults, living in cramped circumstances in their work or any other area of their lives,it was they who did the poking - it's their responsibility.  That pumpkin is a good argument for the importance of education."

Neither the farmer nor his wife had looked at the pumpkin in the jug in just
that way, but they thought it could provide a good example.  And it did.
After the story got out just about every student in the university came to
take a look at it and retell the story the young assistant professor had
told.
And I suppose most of them realized then that if we wind up in spaces
too small - if we don't grow to our full stature - it's because we made the
decision to stop and not grow any further - it was our decision.  It was
because we poked ourselves into a predetermined space.

People are responsible for their own lives.  If they have the power to limit
their growth in someway, they also have the power to break through those
limitations and grow again.

It takes courage to chart our own courses and choose the higher plateaus of achievement and reward. Courage is what keeps us moving ahead in spite of despair.

If you feel you are being held back in life - - why don't you let go of
yourself? Don't be like the farmer who poked a sprouting pumpkin into a one gallon jug - - after it filled the jug, it couldn't grow any more.  Almost
all of our limitations are self-imposed.

And most of us have a tendency to poke ourselves into jugs that are too small!!!

Response: Vitamin E in the News
11.15.04 (4:33 am)   [edit]
From: "Cindy Latham, SVP Shaklee R&D" <shakleemail@shaklee.com>

Vitamin E has been in the news over the last several days as a result of a meta-analysis published in the Annals of Internal Medicine that alleged that high-dose Vitamin E may increase the risk for mortality. Media headlines are not always accurate, and we believe it is our responsibility to share with you some additional information on this study that is not being presented by the media.

The first thing that you need to know is that you do not need to change your vitamin regimen - just follow labeling directions. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Institute of Medicine, which sets recommended dietary guidelines, have stated that it is safe for adults to consume up to 1500 IU of natural Vitamin E per day.

Secondly, there are significant flaws and inaccuracies in the meta-analysis conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins University. A meta-analysis is not a new study; rather, it is a compilation of previously run large-scale clinical studies. This meta-analysis took a narrow look at only 19 of the more than 2,170 published papers addressing the efficacy and safety of Vitamin E.

Jeffrey Blumberg, Chief of the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at Tufts University, member of Shaklee's Scientific Advisory Board, and widely recognized expert on Vitamin E, says, "These investigators selected 19 specific studies to analyze. In doing so, they also selected not to employ a vast number of studies that show no harm from Vitamin E and a great deal of benefit." In addition, 18 of the 19 clinical studies showed no increase in the risk for health complications or fatalities with Vitamin E versus a control group. Only one study out of the 19 demonstrated a higher risk and that study was with patients who were using estrogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) along with Vitamin E.

In fact, the researchers themselves concluded that Vitamin E supplementation did not affect mortality, and a number of the studies in the meta-analysis even showed positive results.

The bottom line? The conclusions of the meta-analysis study are sure to be discredited by statisticians and researchers alike; however, it's unlikely that these refutations will have the same level of publicity. We know that you are being bombarded with questions and we want to provide you with information that you can use with your customers to reassure them in the face of all the negative media.

There are three key points that we want you to be able to share with your customers.

#1. The Study is Inaccurate and Flawed
We recommend that you obtain a copy of the Information Bulletin on this subject which can be requested from Field Communications by e-mail at http://www.shaklee.net/members/supContact" title="http://www.shaklee.net/members/supContact" target="_blank"http://www.shaklee.net/member.... We also have an article posted on the My Shaklee web site that will provide further information for your consumers, and you can link to it in your communications with Members. Also, visit the Council for Responsible Nutrition's web site for an additional news release on the flawed conclusions of this study.

#2. Vitamin E is Safe
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Institute of Medicine, which sets recommended daily dietary guidelines for vitamin supplements, have identified the tolerable upper level of Natural Vitamin E intake at 1500 IU/day for adults. The Institute of Medicine defines the upper limit as "the maximum intake of a nutrient that is likely to pose no risk of adverse health effects in almost all healthy individuals in the general population."

#3. Vitamin E is Efficacious
There are over a thousand studies that demonstrate the positive effects of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin and a powerful antioxidant that has been praised for its numerous health benefits, including the 2004 study by Johns Hopkins researchers published in the Archives of Neurology showing that 400 IU of Vitamin E, taken in concert with 500mg of Vitamin C, reduced the risk of Alzheimers by 60%.

Also, a study of approximately 90,000 nurses suggested that the incidence of heart disease was 30-40% lower among nurses with the highest intake of Vitamin E. Research found that the apparent benefit was mainly associated with intake of Vitamin E from dietary supplements.

So What Should You Do?
Continue taking your normal regimen of supplements. Assure your customers that Vitamin E is both safe and efficacious. Headlines aside, the majority of scientific and clinical data shows well-established benefits of Vitamin E for otherwise healthy individuals. And continue to look to Shaklee to provide the straight and honest story on health and wellness to help you and your customers enjoy a long and healthy life.

How to Have Your Own Online Party
11.10.04 (1:29 pm)   [edit]

Online parties can be a successful and fun way to build your business. These parties are similar to home parties except that you do not have to pay a small fortune for refreshments and snacks or clean your house!

You can have your party in a free or low cost chat room or you can have your party via email. Be sure and create a relaxed and fun atmosphere for your guests. We would recommend a chat room.

You can either recruit someone to host the party for you or you can be the host. There is also something called 'Mystery Host Party'. This is where you draw or randomly select a guest to be the 'Mystery Host' and receive the host benefits.

You will need to schedule your party. We have found that during the week is best unless it is winter. Then weekends can be a good time also. Give yourself plenty of time to plan and send out invitations.

Plan your specials. You definitely want to have some items on special. Maybe some that tie in with your theme, if you have one. Give a 25% discount on certain items, but make sure you leave enough profit as well. You could also offer a small free gift with all orders over , for example.

When it is time to send out the invites, email groups and message boards can be a great place to start. Send out the invitations (follow guidelines on this). Also invite friends, neighbors, co-workers. Let everyone know they can bring a guest or two or however many you like.

Have each guest introduce themselves and tell (type) a little about themselves. This will help bring the guests together.

You also want to make sure you have some fun and interesting games to play. And of course, for each game you will need prizes. Below are some popular party games:

Scavenger Hunt - make a list of several items and instruct your guests to find them on your site.

Word Scramble - Pick about 10 words from your site and see who can get them all right in the least amount of time. Let your guests know the words come from your
site/business.

Trivia Questions - Write up a list of questions about your site/business.

There are many more fun, exciting games to play at your party! Make up your own if you like as well.

You, of course, will also want to spend some time presenting your products. If your focus is cosmetics, share some tips and ideas on applying your products. If you offer nutritional items, explain the benefits of your products. Make your presentation fun, informative and relaxed. Let the guests ask questions and always be clear and candid with your answers.

The idea here is to relax, have fun, showcase your product and make new contacts/customers. If your guests have a good time and enjoy themselves, they will sure to come back to your next party!

If you haven't listened to the presentation our CEO Roger Barnett did for the Excell people, definitely go to the member center and listen. What a remarkable leader and visionary we have in Roger.

In the News...Excel and Shaklee
11.09.04 (9:59 pm)   [edit]
Written By Shirely Koritnik
I've listened in to the three calls Roger Barnett had set up for SHAKLEE leaders so we could be part of the new opportunity with former Excel distributors.  Another is scheduled for next Monday again.  For more information, go to =http://www.shaklee.com/start?... href="http://www.shaklee.com/start"www.shaklee.com/start and have any Excel distributor you know go there, too.  You'll be impressed by the thorough look at SHAKLEE and how it spells out the offer Roger has made to those who want to join us.  Wow.  We are obviously the company refugees would want!  Apparently 197 of them came to Pleasanton two Sundays ago and about 60 of them signed up immediately.  I think I heard that Tony Robbins was there to help, too.

For now, Roger is trying to help the Excel people preserve their Excel up/downlines, so even Excel "orphans" are being asked to sign up through the applications at the above website.  People in our downlines who are Excel distributors are asked to sign up that way as well and the kinks are being worked out in terms of their link to you.  OUR ROLE RIGHT NOW IS TO ASK EXCEL DISTRIBUTORS IF THEY'VE HEARD THE INVITATION (but not recruit them for our own downline), HELP THEM GET TO THE WEBSITE, WELCOME THEM, TELL OUR STORIES, AND ANSWER INITIAL QUESTIONS.

On the call yesterday--Roger called in from Tokyo--we were told that their initial hope that there would be a transitional time where Excel people could continue to sell telecommunications is now dashed, since VarTec owes a lot of Excel distributors a lot of money, and checks have been bouncing.  So SHAKLEE training for them will begin as soon as possible since they'll have "only"  SHAKLEE products to sell immediately.  Those that send in apps are getting ID numbers, sampling the products, sponsoring others, etc.  On Nov. 30 SHAKLEE will count noses and decide how to proceed from there.  The way the rest of us will benefit is from the pool of earnings SHAKLEE accumulates as the upline for Excel-distributors-turned -SHAKLEE-distributors.  Roger says this income will be earmarked to benefit the Field, but we don't know the details of that.  There are a lot of issues being ironed out.

If you're wondering how this all got started--I love a story--here's what I know.  On the call last night we learned that Sue Fredrickson and Mark Harris of Home Team had been Excel distributors, and that they were enormously helpful in crafting the details of the invitation to Excel refugees, since they know the cultures and practices of both companies.  For the rest, here's what Cathy Keating from Home Team sent me.  As other network marketing companies go bankrupt, we have this model and precendent.

Hi, Shirley ~

I can just pass on what I've heard Roger say about this opportunity and how it developed.  Excel was not one of the companies Roger evaluated at the time of his search for a network marketing company.  The rumors of VarTec's financial difficulties have been brewing in the industry for some time.  This opportunity came about because Roger was contacted and asked by the Excel/VarTec management if he would be interested in exploring a way for Excel Representatives to come to Shaklee, and this took place a short time before VarTec announced bankruptcy.  Not sure if this makes a great story, but it is very rare, if not unique in the industry for one Company to make this kind of offer to the entire group of Distributors of another Company, and with the support of the management of the parent company.

Best regards,
Cathy

How do you think? How do your feel?
Written By: Gary Burke

Roger Barnett bought Shaklee Corporation with one thing in mind.  Roger's message has  been very clear and consistent, Shaklee will be the #1 network marketing business in the world.

GROWTH!   START A REVOLUTION!
He is incredibly focused on this goal and I have no doubt whatsoever this will take place.

We in the field need to be as focused and consistent with our goals.  For those of us who want to contribute to help Shaklee become the #1 network marketing company in the world, we have to understand a basic rule for winning.

Winning at anything is an inside job.  Our biggest obstacle or enemy is ourself.  Only you can stop you, not the competition, not the economy, not other people, not negative comments, ONLY YOU CAN STOP YOU.  What I mean by saying winning is an inside job is this, the basic problem most have is they seem to build a case against themselves.

The inside job simply means how we think and talk to ourselves. I want to challenge you to do something today, November 5th, 2004.  I want you to listen to yourself.  I want you to carry a small notebook and write down some of your thoughts throughout today. Do it for only a couple hours and I think you will get the point.

Everyone has thoughts that seem to come at us and these thoughts slow us down or in many cases just stop us from doing what they want to do.  Whoever wins the internal battle is the person who will grow their business to heights that are incredible. Don't stop yourself.

You have to fight against negative thoughts.  We must resist negativity every hour, every day. It is without question our biggest challenge and obstacle.

Remember, DON'T  STOP  YOURSELF

How to effectively tell your story
11.05.04 (5:27 am)   [edit]

Written by: Michael S. Clouse
When you stop to think about it, every weekly business briefing and every
large event needs to include powerful, effective testimonials (or what I call stories), somewhere during the presentation, for the benefit of both distributors and new guests alike.

So how can you ensure that you're ready to contribute with your powerful and effective stories?

Consider putting into practice the following four-point plan:

1) Every distributor needs to create his or her own story (testimonial)
regarding the product or service, and the money.

2) Write it down. Your story should include: your name, where you live, your background or occupation, followed by your product, or money story.

3) Practice, drill, and rehearse the words you've written until you can cover every point in 30 to 45 seconds.

4) When it comes to your money story, I would suggest converting your money story into your lifestyle story... After all, why would someone who is already earning $10,000 per month want to join your business? Because of the lifestyle!

Not fighting the traffic is lifestyle.
Being home with your kids is lifestyle.
Doing work that brings you satisfaction is lifestyle.
Waking up after you're finished sleeping is lifestyle.

Instead of earning $500 in your home-based business, ask yourself "What am I doing with the $500?" And if your answer is that you are buying back some of your life for example, the ability to retire at 55 instead of retiring at 65 that's lifestyle!

What sounds more impressive? "I earn $700 per month in my home-based
business..." or "With the extra money our business provides, we were able to take another two-week dream vacation in the middle of February to Aruba!"

Take the time to prepare both your product and lifestyle stories. Write them down and practice both until you know them like you know your own name. Then make sure you inform your local leadership team that you've got two powerful and effective stories, and you're ready to let the world know....

Creating Your Story

Keep your story to 30 to 45 seconds!

Your goal is to relate, relate, relate, to as many people as possible.

Include: your name, your location, your background, how you were introduced to the business, or why you decided to become a distributor, and what your business has done (or is doing) for you... Remember relate, relate, relate!

Example: "My name is Michael Clouse... My wife and I have two grown children and live in Seattle. Prior to becoming a distributor with the XYZ Company, I had gone from an Account Executive position with AT&T, to Editor-in-Chief of a business magazine, to a small business owner... And then this home-based business just kind of fell in my lap. Well, I took a look, liked what I saw, got involved, and using the system they taught me, went to work on a very part-time basis¦ Today, just a few short years later, I earn over $100,000 a year, my wife and I just spent three-weeks in Italy, and I'm still only working part-time! I guess you could say that getting involved with this business continues to be one of the best decisions I have ever made." A total of 38 seconds!

This story relates to: Seattle, married, children, family, white collar
worker, sales person, technology, journalism, small business owner, there is a system you can follow, part-time, six-figure income, travel, vacations, this was the right decision, time freedom.

Because if you would just take a few minutes and complete this simple and yet extremely vital aspect of your business, and then teach this to all those on your team, you will keep more distributors excited about the possibilities, and sponsor more guests too....

How to overcome one of the most common objections in Newwork Marketing
11.03.04 (12:36 pm)   [edit]
One of the common objections people will make when taking a look at the business opportunity is- "I don't want to make money off of my family and friends."  If you have approached people about the business opportunity, chances are you have heard that statement. Perhaps some of you reading this are new and have that feeling yourself.  Making money off of family and friends is really not the issue.  The issue is- do they want to be a business owner or not?

Every
business owner I know makes money off their family and friends.  Why?  First, their family and friends choose to do business with them because the business owner is someone they know and trust.  Secondly, most people want to support their friend's, or family member's, business, so they choose to do business with their family or friend rather than giving their business to a stranger, or some giant business where they are just a number.

I have a friend that owns a restaurant.   Every time I go there to eat, my friend makes money off of me.  He does not go to the server and tells the server to write up my check/bill at his cost.  I have a friend who is a dentist.  He makes a lot of money off me!  I don't get a special rate because he's my friend.  I have another friend who owns a small store.  He makes money off me when I buy things there.  My next door neighbor owned an auto repair shop, so guess where I took my cars to get fixed?  My oldest daughter is a chiropractor.  I wouldn't think of asking her to adjust me for free, and I wouldn't think of going to another chiropractor and giving that person my money instead of my own daughter!  That's how business works.  You are in business for the purpose of making money because you offer a product or  service that other people want.  In addition, doing business with people you know makes far more sense than giving that same business to a stranger.  Why would you want to do that?

Yes, there are times when my friend the dentist, or my friend the restaurant owner, or my friend the store owner, or my neighbor the mechanic, or my daughter the chiropractor,  will give me a special price, an extra discount, do me a favor, etc.  That is their prerogative as a business owner, and they do that on occasion because I am their friend or their relative, but they certainly don't do that every time I walk into their place of business.  They must make money to stay and business.

So I ask you--- why in the world would it be, or should it be, any different for the owner of a Shaklee business?  The answer is- it's not!  I own my own Shaklee business and I offer superior, high quality products- products that people need, want, and use every day.  My parents buy Shaklee products from me and so do both of my brothers.  I have cousins that buy Shaklee products from me.  Several of my close friends buy Shaklee products from me.  Neighbors buy Shaklee products from me.  Just like the owner of any business, it is my prerogative to decide if I want to offer a special price, or an extra discount to my family and friends and I do, but I'm still going to make money because that is why I chose to be a business owner in the first place.  I must make money to stay in business as well.

Here's a little food for thought- people that have jobs make money off of their family and friends as well, but probably never stop to think about the fact that they do.  I have a friend who works for GM and he makes good money.  GM is only able to pay him that money because people like you and me buy a GM car and that's how he gets paid.  When his family and friends by GM products, in the end, he is making money off them.

As the owner of a Shaklee business, I know that when friends and family members choose to do business with me, it is a win/win situation.  They are getting superior, high quality products- products that can and will actually make a difference in their life.  I am getting the benefit of their business rather than someone else, and I am getting paid for offering my products and service.

What does the ideal type of distributor look like?
11.03.04 (12:33 pm)   [edit]
If your planning to build a large Shaklee Network marketing business, you
will need to develop an organization of distributors. Most anyone is a
prospective distributor for your company so some will use the mirror test to find them.
This is where you hold a mirror under your prospect's nose and if at least one side fogs up you talk to them. That will work, but what if you want to grow even faster?

When using the RWB process to search for distributors, you will find many
different types of distributors along the way. However, if you are out to look for the ideal distributor, one that may be a super-star in your group, what might you be looking for?

Here is a list you may want to refer to as you do your prospecting:

1.) People who may have had past Network Marketing experience and are looking for a better company to do business with or their company is going out of business.

2.) People who have been helped, healed, or impressed with our products.

3.) Women. Many successful leaders in this business are woman for many
different reasons. For some, it may be the idea that they can help so many people and at the same time earn as much or more than men do. Lately, more woman are wishing to leave the stresses of the corporate world and work from home.

4.) Self-Starters. People who are able to work well on their own once you
teach them the RWB process.

5.) People who absolutely want this business to work, recognize the
opportunity, and seriously commit to working the business at least on a part-time basis of 10 -15 hours per week and for at least one year.

6.) Steady hard-workers with positive outlooks, who are open-minded and happy about life.

7.) People who want more out of life. Maybe they have a camper but want a motor home. Maybe they have a functional tan car but want a red Mercedes.

8.) People who want freedom, flexibility and mobility. Look for people who
have social contacts and control over their own lives. These might be insurance or real estate people, because they choose those lines of work for the above-mentioned reasons. These kinds of people must also initiate to find business. They can't sit back and wait for it to come to them.

9.) Recruiters. These are folks who have seemingly snatched people out of
thin air and built something.

10.) Teachers. They know how to teach and manage people and their pay is usually abysmal.

After reading this list you may feel that you are not the ideal distributor
yourself. Well, that is OK. Because with a Network Marketing business, you can become successful by sponsoring these distributors. The only thing you need is a strong core desire to do so and a process such as the RWB to make it all happen!

Contextual advertising generates strong ROI for 1-800-CONTACTS

By running your ads in Google's content network, you target a larger number of prospective customers and can achieve a higher ROI. Take the world's largest contact lens store, 1-800-CONTACTS, for example. Clint Schmidt, Director of Online Marketing at 1-800-CONTACTS, and his team put contextual advertising to the test in 2004. The goal: to grow the company's customer base and increase sales.

Strategy: Schmidt and his team placed their currently running campaigns into the Google content network. To fully optimize AdWords, they organized 1,500 active keywords into different categories — generic, brand names, and product terms — and tested different landing pages for each category. The team used Google's conversion tracking to measure sales conversions and track results.

Results: In just a few months, the 1-800-CONTACTS team lifted conversion rates from 1.5% to 4.5%, at a lower cost per sale.

How you can use contextual advertising to achieve results: Like 1-800-CONTACTS, you can reach more prospective customers and boost your ROI with contextual advertising. Simply go to your Edit Campaign Settings page in your AdWords account to place your campaign(s) into the Google content network. Then, sit back and view the results. Information for Excel Distributors
11.03.04 (5:57 am)   [edit]

Only last week Excel distributors were notified that their company is filing Chapter 11 bankrupcy. I have visited with many excel distributors over that last week and feel for them.... They have worked so hard to build a business just to have the rug swept out from under them.

I know from experience how they feel, because I have had this happen twice in the last 13 years. Before going full time in my Shaklee business I worked for 2 different non-profit companies.
1.  First was the March of Dimes.(5 years) The company re-organized and decided to cut staff/ fundraising in rural areas (where I live) and focus on larger city's.
2. Second was Experience Works.(5 years) This is a national non-profit organization that helped people get training and employment. It was funded by the Department of Labor. In a nut shell we lost our grant...
it was a bad deal...
I was the state director with a 2.5 million budget....
had to lay off 7 staff....
many of the 365 participants in our program suffered greatly...

Have you ever heard of the saying there are no mistakes only lessons and they are repeated until they are learned? I have learned my lesson and have built a business and customer base that no one can take away from me.

Roger Barnett along with the Shaklee Home office are taking great strides to help Excel distributors be able to come into the Shaklee family if they want to.  Roger is going to make a position just for the Excel distributors so the may keep the downline they have worked so hard to build.

There is even a new website for them to go to and learn more about Shaklee and the unique opportunity. Go to [link] to see it and please help our Excel friends learn about this site that was put up just for them.
