There is more to health than weight loss. Dr. Oz, a cardiac surgeon at one of New York's best hospitals, spoke once again about how to stay young on the Oprah Winfrey Show!
I think you'll agree that most people conserned about losing weight watch the scales. According to Dr. Oz, he says to look at your waist measurement more than your weight measurement."
Dr. Oz also said that your waist measurement should be less than your height divided by 2. If you are 70" tall, your waist measurement should be less than 35". It is possible to gain muscle weight and also lose inches around the waist. This is a good thing!
The ideal heart rate is: 220 minus your age times .80. Example: a women age 44 should have a target heart rate of 140 when exercising. A lady in the audience complained that she was slowly gaining weight even though she exercises regularly. The Doc put her on an ellipse machine and said she hasn't been pushing herself hard enough. Get the heart rate up 3 times a week.
You should strength train at least 30 minutes a week. Strengthen the core muscles first, before you do pull ups. You should also practice yoga to enhance your flexibility. Yoga is also good for the mind. Some meditations require making a Yummmm, or similar sound. These vibrations are good for the body.
Dr. Oz started by showing two pieces of cut apples. One apple looked fresh because it was rubbed with lemon juice. The other apple piece looked brown and oxidized. Dr. Oz said when our cells oxidized; we age, like the brown apple. The lemon juice is an example of an antioxidant and the other apple piece was better preserved.
Antioxidants are found in blueberries. You should select fruits and vegetables with bright and deep colors. The colors are an indicator of nutrient rich fruits and vegetables. Broccoli loaded with antioxidants and also beneficial for thyroid function. Broccoli has a specific chemical that protects the body against cancer. Tomatoes contain lycopine which is good for the heart.

Sleep: 7-8 hours every night.
Sex: 2-3 times a week. This creates more oxitosin, which is a hormone in women that creates a feeling of a loving bond and well being. Sex creates more testosterone in men.

Dr. Oz said on another show that the chemicals in your brain are the same chemicals that are found in your gut (intestines). "If your brain isn't happy, your gut will not be happy. Lack of Control
You think: My life is out of control. There is nothing in it that I am in charge of. Everyone and everything around me rules my life. Except for eating... I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want it. So I will.
Feeling Unappreciated

Weight Loss: Turn Unhealthy Habits Into Healthy Ones
Can you change your unhealthy habits to healthy ones? Sure, why not?
It’ll take some discipline and willpower in the beginning, but after a few weeks, you’ll see how your new routine will become the norm.
1 Eating late at night – make yourself a meal bedtime. Put eating to sleep at 6, or 7, or 8 o'clock, whatever is realistic for you. Make your eating bedtime at least two hours before you actually go to bed.
2 Not exercising – Get a friend to join you three days a week for a walk before you start your day. Make a commitment to each other and hold each other accountable. You may want to impose a penalty – $10 every time you miss a workout?
3 Eating too much sugar, bread or fast food - It’s tough to reduce intake. Easier, I have found, to take it out altogether. So if sugar, or coffee, or soda is your nemesis, take that option off the table, entirely. You will be amazed at how powerful, and healthy, you feel once you do.
4 Beating yourself up – this is a big one. Do you look at what you are wearing and pick out everything you don’t like? Do you curse yourself for eating too much? Stop it!
Becoming aware of what you are doing is the first step. When you notice yourself doing it, reverse it by saying something nice – even if you don’t believe it at first. Force yourself to praise yourself - surely you can find something that you appreciate about you.
This will change how you see yourself, how you feel about yourself, and ultimately how you treat yourself. That means the behavior that you have been doing that has given you license to get down on yourself will stop.

Step 1: Add Weight
Not by eating more... we mean litterly as weight to your work out! Add some weights when you walk, it's amazing what that will do to burn up calories. I personally use 5 lb weights now, but I started with 2 1/2 pounders. I probably look like an idoit walking down the dirt road waving my arms high above my head and twisting from side to side. It increases my workout intensity while building and toning muscle. More bang for the time you spend keeping fit.
Step 2: Intensity Burst Training
The absolute best way to burn more fat and calories is by working out at a higher intensity right? Try some intensity where you do short burst of maximum intensity and back to easy or medium intensity than repeat. 10 to 20 minutes works for me, generally to the highway and back about mile.
Step 3: Keep Good Posture
For me it's carrying all the animals home who get tired half way. We tend to slump when carrying things.On excercise equipment the handles bars are only there for balance so use them only for that and not when things get hard. Keep you head up no matter how tired you get.
Step 4: Variety Is Everything
Doing the same workout every time you excercise will force your body to adapt that will have you burning less calories and making no gains. Mix up the types of excercise you do from walking to jogging, biking, swimming, etc. just keep adding variety.

I am not saying that doing cardio after you workout is the best but it does has its advantages like decreasing muscle soreness after a workout, targets more fat cells. Remember, the best time to do cardio is when you feel the best most importantly just do it.

Yes even people who love TV can loose weight and stay fit, without it cutting into precious television time. Even fitness experts find TV-watching workouts helpful -- and sometimes, a necessity. It's all a matter of setting up your TV room up for fitness and excercise. Who says you have to lay on the couch to watch TV! i personally have an excercise matt weights stored in our TV room. Really they type of excercise you do doesn't really matter the key is you do something to get the body moving and blood circulating.
Kinesiologist Shari Feuz, an exercise advisor with the International Council on Active Aging in Vancouver, says this approach can work well -- as long as you're working hard enough to feel it.
"It is absolutely possible to improve your fitness level in front of the TV, if the intensity is adequate, just as it is quite possible to go to a fitness center several times per week and NOT improve your fitness level," Feuz says. Given how much TV most of us watch, exercising at the same time is not a bad idea. Studies show that American men average 29 hours a week of TV watching, while women rack up about 34 hours. That gives us a lot of time to fit in some extra activity.
"This is multitasking at its best," says Mare Petras, author of Fitness Simply, which includes a chapter titled "Here's Oprah," dedicated to fitness in front of the TV.
"We're an all-or-nothing society," says Petras. "We think that if we can't exercise for an hour at a time, that it doesn't count. But that's not true. It doesn't have to be 'black or white' with fitness. It all adds up."

In fact, if you're not ready to risk losing track of the plot of that fast-moving drama by doing a full-blown workout, you can fit in fitness breaks during the commercials. This can be an especially good option for beginners.
Linda Buch, author of The Commercial Break Workout, points out that a 30-minute sitcom has about 10 minutes' worth of commercials. Instead of using this time to reach for a handful of cookies or chips, get moving!
Among Buch's suggestions:
Pushups. If floor pushups are too difficult for you, start off by standing up with your hands on the wall, then pushing back. Do this 10 times; increase the reps as the exercise gets easier.
Chair squats. Stand up, sit down, then stand right back up (for even more of a workout, don't sit down all the way). Do this for the length of one commercial. As it gets easier, do it again for the next commercial.
Marching in place. Move both your arms and legs; add jumping jacks to increase the intensity.
"Little bits of exercise like these strung together add up to energy expended," says Buch.

I don't get out much but when I do I see more and more people who could benefit greatly by loosing some weight. I don't say this to judge others I just know deep down how much happier and healthier they would be if they joined in on the Weight Loss movement.
